“A change of focus… shift in direction” 2000 - 2007
• In 2000, Gabourie makes his directorial debut with the world premiere of “The Water Crawlers” by Chalmers Award-winning playwright, Geoff Kavanagh.
• In 2001, Gabourie directs the Canadian premiere of “St. Nicholas” by Conor McPherson, which stars Adam Bramble, a founder of the ACME Theatre Co.
• In 2001, Gabourie co-founded, with Adrian Griffin, the Toronto performance collective The Co.
• Between 2001and 2006, Gabourie accepted an invitation to both direct and assistant direct productions at the renowned Stratford Festival of Canada. At Stratford, Gabourie receives the Tyrone Guthrie, Jean Gascon award.
• In 2005, Gabourie begins work, with frequent collaborator Adrian Griffin, on “Crook Back Dicky”, a punk rock adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Richard III”.
• During 2005, Gabourie takes part in the One Yellow Rabbit, Summer Lab Intensive.
• In 2006, “Crook Back Dicky” becomes a hit at the Fringe of Toronto Festival.
• 2007 “Crook Back Dicky” is remounted at Toronto’s historic, Theatre Centre.
